This Week's Movie Premieres

2007/01/05 | Permalink | Source

It's Friday and that means time to check on what's playing at the movies.
I see there are two Korean movies.
One is a romantic comedy about time travel, and the other a melodrama set during a turbulent time in Korea's modern history.
More from Son Heekyung.

The Korean romantic comedy "Project Makeover" ("Go Go Sister") is about a 30-year-old woman who travels back in time to her high school days.
The movie is the comedic debut of veteran actress Ko So-young who plays a woman whose failed first love has kept her miserable.
She travels back in time to 1994 to persuade her teenage self to date her first boyfriend who had dumped her.

Director Im Sang-soo's latest film "The Old Garden" is adapted from a best-selling novel.
The melodrama is about a love affair between a pro-democracy activist and a young teacher.
The two are torn apart just six months into their relationship after the man is sentenced to prison for anti-government activities.
The film is set during Korea's turbulent era of the late 1980s when university students took to the streets demanding democracy.

Next are three digital short films with the common title "Talk to Her".
The annual Jeonju International Film Festival commissioned the works to famous directors from around the world.
Under the title, all three 30-minute shorts involve a lack of communication toward female characters.
The three filmmakers who produced the films are from Kazakhstan, Singapore and Thailand.

From Hollywood comes an animated comedy with animals.
"Open Season" is about a domesticated bear who escapes into the forest just before hunting season opens.
He teams up with a fast-talking mule deer to survive, and the two persuade other forest creatures to band together against the hunters.
