Torch Relay Begins for Incheon Asian Games

Actress Lee Si-young carries the torch in a relay for the Incheon Asian Games in the port city on Wednesday.

The torch for the Incheon Asian Games has begun travelling in Korea as it arrived from India on Wednesday.

The flame was first lit last Saturday at New Delhi Stadium in India, where the sporting event was held for the first time in 1951. Upon arrival in Incheon through Weihai, China, it was combined with another flame that was lit on Mt. Mani, Ganghwa Island, on Tuesday.

Among the 4,000 torch bearers actress and boxer Lee Si-young was the first to run with the flame, and others include Hyolyn, of girl group Sistar, and Olympic archery gold medalist Ki Bo-bae .

The torch is set to arrive at the Game's main stadium on Sep. 19 for the opening ceremony after completing a 5,700 km journey.

The torch will travel through 70 cities and towns across the country including Baeknyeong Island in the West Sea, Jeju Island in the South Sea and Ulleung Island in the East Sea.
