Two Beautiful, High-tech Museums Soon to Open in Seoul

Our friends over at the Korea IT Times recently wrote about two new museums that will open in the heart of Seoul's old downtown. The National Art Museum Seoul will pre-open in October 2012 on the east side of Kyoungbok Palace. Nearby, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History will move into the building which used to house the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, once it is refurbished. The art museum features a contemporary design and will also be home to 24-hour garden for use by everyone in the community. Inside will be three floors of contemporary art, educational spaces, digital archives, dining facilities and even an art theatre.

According to the Korea IT Times, the new history museum will blend hands-on exhibits with interactive ones [emphasis ours]:

The exhibition halls will feature four themes: the birth of the Republic of Korea resulting in years of the Independence Movement under Japanese colonial rule, its postwar establishment, the country's economic growth and democratic movement, and finally the advancement of Korea in the global era. The museum is set to offer exhibitions in cyberspace, allowing a wider audience to get a glimpse of Korea's contemporary history from all corners of the world with just a few clicks.

For more information on the National Art Museum Seoul you can visit their English website. While the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History doesn't have an English-language website yet, you can still browse the Korean version.
