Two New Actresses Who Gave Up Their Names

To have an actor or actress be judged purely on acting skill goes without saying, but for these two brand new actresses, it wasn't so easy. Is it because they lacked the acting skills? No, it was because they had to overcome the viewers' expectation.

Featuring today is the actress Lee Da-in from "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" and Chae Seo-jin, the rookie actress of the cinema industry.

Until Lee Da-in appeared in "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth", she was just known for her label of "Actress Kyeon Mi-ri's daughter" or "Actress Lee Yu-bi's sister" and nothing to prove herself. That's one of the reason why she use the stage name Lee Da-in instead of her real name: Lee Ju-hee.

In "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" Lee Da-in acted as Soo-yeon, who's a sister to Soo-ho (performed by Choi Minho) and falls in love with Ban-ryu (performed by Do Ji-han). Her part in the drama wasn't a lot, yet many viewers requested more parts for her since Soo-yeon and Ban-ryu's love story attracted many.

Though her labels were something for her to overcome, she is also affected by her mom. She became interested in the acting career by watching her mom perform in many dramas and movies.

She mentioned, "My family is my homework. I think it is up to me how I can take those labels off of me. It is pressuring but also motivating. I was relieved to feel that I actually have a potential by acting in "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" this time".

"I was scared that I have to do double, triple job compared to other new actresses beginning their career. It was overwhelming, knowing that I can't let my mom down. When I debuted and got many people's attention, it was hard but despite the 99% of bad comments, that 1% of cheer is what helped me".

Actress Chae Seo-jin also have a family in the entertainment industry. She is a sister of well-known actress, Kim Ok-vin. Last year, Chae Seo-jin visited the audience with 2 movies, "Curtain Call - Movie" and "Will You Be There".

She was also influenced by her sister, Kim Ok-vin. Since she was young, she was always surrounded by her sister's scripts lying around the house.

But it wasn't until she was admitted at Korea National University of Arts that she wanted to make a career out of acting. She's also using a stage name instead of her real name, Kim Go-woon. She wanted to get rid of her label of "Kim Ok-vin's sister" and be judged fairly.
