U.S. Supports Use Of "Sea of Japan" In Controversial Name Debate

On to the controversial debate surrounding the naming of the body of water separating Korea and Japan--
The U.S. says the sea should continued being called its "standard name", the "Sea of Japan".
The statement comes as the naming issue is slated to be discussed on Wednesday at the five-day International Hydrographic Organization meeting that kicked off on Monday in Monaco.
While Japan supports the use of the term "Sea of Japan" Korea wants it to be concurrently used with the term "East Sea" saying the name was decided on during Japanese colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula some 80 years ago.
Korea needs to get support from more than 39 of the 80 IHO member states.
The debate will continue until Friday.
