Uniforms Go from Conformity to Style!

Most junior high and high schools in Korea mandate that students wear school uniforms.
So it comes as no surprise that at this time of the year, as students enter a new year of school, chaos ensues at uniform specialty stores all over the nation.
Some students may only wear uniforms for three years, while some wear them for more than twelve - but nevertheless, uniforms are an unavoidable part of Korean school life. How do the students feel about their uniforms

[Interview : Kwon Eun-hui & Kim Ji-yeon, Students] "When I wear normal clothes, I have to worry about what to wear, so uniforms are convenient in that respect".

[Interview : ] "I like that I don't have to think about what to wear in the morning".

[Interview : Song Hyeon-hui, Student] "Uniforms these days seem to be getting prettier, like doll clothes. Some even have big bows.

In recent years, uniforms have become a common sight in TV dramas and other media that are popular with students.
This has led to the evolution of uniforms to fit the fashion taste of students who respond immediately to changes in trends.
Today, every school is choosing to not only promote school unity and belonging, but also express spirit and individuality by differentiating the design of its uniform from other schools.

Uniforms are now stylish and comfortable everyday wear.
Students' interest in body silhouette has changed the colors and designs of uniforms everywhere.
Uniforms in the 1990s were designed to make the legs look longer.
Uniforms in the 21st century mainly focus on making the waist seem slimmer, creating a healthy hourglass figure.

[Interview : Jo Mun-yeong, Student uniform designer] "When I was a student, the first thing I'd do when I got home from school was change out of my uniform. Now, uniforms are more fashionable, so students don't feel uncomfortable in their uniforms. Uniforms represent not only their school, but also the styles of individual students".

Although the role of school uniforms is changing from that of control and conformity to one of style and individuality, they will never stop being an important part of every Korean's memories of school life.
