The number of visa applicants has jumped since December when the new visas became available in major cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Visa holders can visit Korea for up to 30 days at a time over the five years.

Local media said that the recent surge, estimated at some 3,000 people a day, was caused by rumors that Korea would tighten the visa policy again.
