According to Statistics Korea, regular employees earn on average W2.71 million a month but contract workers only 54 percent of that figure (US$1=W1,106).
The ratio has fallen from 64 percent in 2007 and 56 percent last year.
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance attributed the widening gap to a recent increase in the number of part-time jobs, which drives down the average.
The survey also showed that ordinary employees work for the same firm for seven years and three months on average, while non-regular workers leave after two years and five months.
That gap has also grown steadily, perhaps because the recession prompts many regular workers to stay in their job, whether they like it or not.
The number of non-regular workers totaled 6.01 million, up 101,000 from last year. Most of them were taken up by women with 82,000.
