My Dear Maria is a fun and captivating story that explores the life and troubles of a gold-digger named Yon-hee.

Yon-hee is a beautiful young woman who has depended on her looks her entire life and her only goal is to find a rich husband. Originally from a tiny village in the countryside, she now lives in the city, spending exorbitant amounts of her boyfriend's money to party and pamper herself with every luxury. She feels like her dream is just within her reach but she gets a brutal slap of reality when her boyfriend unexpectedly breaks up with her. He tells her to move out of the apartment he got for her, cancels all of her credit cards and her phone line. Realizing she literally has nothing to her name, she is forced to take a job at a department store as a valet girl.

Constantly abused by her boss and tired from standing all day, Yon-hee finally begins to realize how hard it is to make money. Just before she hits rock bottom, she runs into an old college classmate, who is now a priest known as Father Benedicto.

When she finds out that his congregation is filled with rich young bachelors, she devises a plan to make one of those men her husband because she believes it is the only way she can get a better life.

Much to Father Benedicto's horror, she schemes her way into getting a job as the live-in cook at the church and portrays herself as a humble, innocent and hardworking girl in front of everyone, especially the mothers with young, single and rich sons. But can her plan succeed?

Yon-hee is an unconventional protagonist to sympathize with but there is something about her that you root for. Even though she is superficial, vain and a little selfish, there is some understanding in how she became that way. Overall this webtoon is filled with a lot of light and funny moments, especially when it focuses on Yon-hee's dynamic with Father Benedicto. It's a nice read that makes you hopeful that people can grow and change.
