"Welcome To Dongmakgol" wins best picture award

The movie "Welcome to Dongmakgol" has won the best picture award at this year's Korea Film Awards.

Hosted by actor Ahn Sung-ki and actress Song Yoon-ah, the 4th Korea Film Awards ceremony was held Dec. 4 from 6 p.m. for three hours at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul.

Aside from best picture, "Welcome to Dongmakgol" has also won the best director, best new director, best supporting actress, best writer and best music awards. The movie drew particular attention as its director, Bae Jong, won two awards for his debut work, while its music director, Hisaishi Joe from Japan, was the first foreigner ever to win the best Korea Film music award.

The best lead actor and actress awards went to Hwang Jung-min and Jeon Do-yeon for their roles in the movie "You are my Sunshine". Hwang also received the best supporting actor award for the movie "A Bittersweet Life". Meanwhile, it was the second best lead actress award in a row for Jeon, who plays a tea-house waitress affected with AIDS in "You are my Sunshine". She won the previous award last year for her role in "My Mother, the Mermaid".

Kang Hye-jung, who portrays a hardworking girl from a remote village in "Welcome to Dongmakgol", won the best supporting actress award. The distinguished service award went to Director of the Pusan Film Festival Executive Committee Kim Dong-ho.

The movie "Blood Rain", which was nominated in 11 categories, including best director (Kim Dae-seung), best supporting actor (Park Yong-woo), best supporting actress (Choi Ji-na) and best new actress (Yoon Se-ah), received only three awards: best art direction, best visual effects and best sound effects.
