What happened to the Mosses?

"We are very happy. As DIGICON's theme this year has to do with the environment, we thought we had a chance to win, but we did not expect that we would win the Grand Prix. We thank KOCCA for always being a big help, and we wish to share the honor of this award with the entire staff of Crazy Bird Studio, who poured all their time and energies into this project".

Huh, Seon, CEO of Crazy Bird Studio, whose The Mosses received the Grand Prix at the DIGICON 6+3 Local Awards in Korea, could not hide her joy.

As its title suggests, The Mosses is the story of the "Moss" family. Having been touched by a group of mosses who had split open a small crevice on the cemented sidewalk, Huh and her team began working on a new animation. Finally, the Moss family was brought to life.

This four-minute-long animation tells its story only through the characters' facial expressions and actions, and through a bit of narration. With limited words, the Moss family's light and comical daily experiences are made to unfold, and the importance of our environment and of how we should treat it is conveyed.

The aspect of the animation that the staff of Crazy Bird Studio accomplished with the greatest care was the character design. By creating the appearance of moss, which does not have any particular shape, they gave birth to the animation's unique and lovely characters. They also used the digital cutout method, Crazy Bird Studio's feature technology, to produce the animation.

Having opened in 2001, the independent animation studio Crazy Bird Studio has produced The Cookie Land Story, Cool Kevin, and The Mosses. In terms of their works' subject matter and the methods that they use in creating them, Crazy Bird Studio is always "pursuing something new". It was the first animation studio that tried the digital cutout method, a rare animation production method in Korea. The studio's animated music video Classic Animation with Einstein, which was set to classical music, drew the interest of many and received the Minister of Culture and Tourism Award in the 2003 DVD Competition in Korea.
