What is the future of pre-production? "Descendants of the Sun" has been the only successful one

Last year's "Descendants of the Sun" set a record of 40% and created history in Korean drama. The scenario, the cast and the production were perfect, which shot the cast into stardom and bursted energy into Hallyu once again.

On the other hand, the latest "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" ended with only single digits which proved it to be unsuccessful.

Both are pre-productions broadcast in KBS but they have created very different results.

After "Descendants of the Sun" created a syndrome, there have been many other pre-productions but none of them have been equally successful.

KBS CP Bae Kyeong-soo acknowledges this fact.

There has been skepticism about pre-productions in the drama but CP Bae claims pre-productions must continue.

He said, "The market has expanded thanks to Hallyu. To maintain this flow, we need to think about how to structure a drama and consume it and how to gain relative predominance".

"The United States, which can be said is the best in the contents market, has also started pre-production. It is only right that we do the same if we want to be globalized".

Meanwhile, there are many pre-productions in the making such as "My Sassy Girl - Drama", "Ruler: Master of the Mask", "Secret Forest", "Man to Man" and more.
