Wives Grow More Weary of Married Life Than Men

Husbands are more satisfied with their spouses than vice versa, according to a report based on statistical data and various survey results released by Statistics Korea last month.

The report claims that 71.8 percent of married men feel happy with their spouses, over 10 percentage points higher than women (59.2 percent).

However, both become similarly dissatisfied with their partners as time passes. For men, their feelings of discontent peak when they are in their late 50s, while women become less happy with each passing decade until they are in their 70s.

Divorces later in married life are also on the rise.

Over the past 10 years, the percentage of couples who end their marriage within four years declined 2.4 percentage points. The rate fell 3.3 percentage points for couples who call it quits after five to nine years of marriage. But it jumped 10.6 percentage points after 20 years of married life as more couples decided to go their separate ways.
