Wonder Girls to appear on variety show "Family Outing"

Female pop group Wonder Girls will be making a comeback to the Korean entertainment scene by appearing in popular variety show "Family Outing Season 2" later this month, according to the show's broadcaster SBS.

SBS announced in a press release on Monday that the girl band will be appearing on the second season of "Family Outing", making their first variety show appearance in over a year.

The group, who have been working in the United States since last summer, will be flying into Seoul on May 17 and head straight to the set of "Family Outing" to shoot an episode till the following day.

The episode will feature the girls and the "Family Outing" cast going on a school field trip, re-enacting the typical high school student life that the members of the girl group have been unable to experience in real life because they were busy training for their musical debut.

Wonder Girls -- originally composed of Ahn So-hee, Yubin, Sun, Ha:tfelt and Mimi -- debuted in Korea in 2007 and quickly became one of the most successful pop groups in the country with three consecutive No. 1 singles, "Tell Me", "So Hot", and "Nobody".

At the height of their popularity in Korea, producer J.Y. Park made headlines last summer when he took the quintet to the U.S. where they began working as a virtually unknown pop group from Asia.

Their hard work paid off though when the girls scored an opening gig for popular boy band Jonas Brothers' U.S. summer tour, appeared on several TV shows and became the first Korean artists to make the Billboard chart with their debut single "Nobody" in October 2009.

The quintet, with new member Lim replacing Mimi after she left the group in February, will be releasing their new album worldwide on May 16 (Korea time). The title track and its music video will be available in Korean, Chinese and English.

The "Family Outing" episode featuring Wonder Girls will air in early June.
