WSJ Hails Hana TV's Success

The Wall Street Journal has reported on Hanaro Telecom's adoption of Hana TV as a new growth engine and the company's success in Korea's saturated high speed Internet market.

The report graced the top business section of the daily's Sunday issue.

It cited Hanaro's success in connecting video and movie content on the computer to TV sets in Korea equipped with an ubiquitous environment.

The report said that Hanaro, the country's number two fixed line operator, has attracted 500,000 subscribers in a year and quoted the company's forecast that it could top one million early next year.

The journal said the success lies in the fact that with just ten dollars, users can view some 20,000 programs.

Noting that IPTV's biggest attraction is 'two way interactivity' rather than 'real time broadcasts', the report said that Hana TV's differentiation from existing cable or satellite TV has brought about its success.
