X-Rays Point to Malpractice in Singer's Death

The late singer-songwriter Sin Hae-cheol's family on Tuesday unveiled x-ray images of his abdomen taken before and after intestinal surgery. They were trying to rebut claims by the celebrity surgeon who performed the operation that he did not cause a perforation to the pericardial sac surrounding Sin's heart that is being blamed for his death.

A medical expert who saw the images said, "The intestines are largely free of any marks before surgery, but the x-ray taken after the operation shows air outside of the intestines, water in the left lung and a slightly swollen heart".

Song Gyo-young at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital said, "Looking at the air outside of his intestines, we can assume that a perforation caused air to seep out, but they could also stem from air that got trapped there following abdominal surgery, so it' difficult to reach conclusions from the x-rays alone".

But Song added a CAT scan should have been conducted.

The surgeon, Kang Se-hoon, told police that he did not deem it necessary for the singer to undergo a CAT scan and that Sin checked himself out of hospital after surgery even though hospital staff tried to stop him.
