Yoon Do-hyun Poised to Conquer U.S.

Celebrated rock band YB will make their U.S. debut early next year on the Universal label. A documentary of their recent U.S. tour will be aired on PBS as well. "I'm studying English like crazy", lead singer Yoon Do-hyun told the Chosun Ilbo on Wednesday.

"For over 20 days this summer, we took part in the Warped Tour, visiting various places in the U.S"., he said. "About 40,000 to 50,000 fans gather for one concert. At first, we were a bit intimidated because you could hardly find any Asians, not to mention Koreans, in the audience. But as time went by, the number of Americans who came for our concerts grew. We saw hope in that. Also, our fellow musicians in the U.S. and the media there gave us a warm welcome and spoke highly of our unique style of music. That's why we have high hopes for our U.S. debut".

Yoon said his dream since high school has to meet "everyone around the world" and play his music to them. "I think I can take the first step toward realizing that dream next year", he added.

Yoon has a busy schedule. For the first time in four years, he is also working as a solo musician, and he is in the cast of the musical "Hedwig", which will start on Nov. 14. "When I'm with the band, I can't experiment with the various colors of my voice, so I sometimes want to sing on my own", he said. One of his most important principles is clear diction, so he does not like to play around with vocalization.

His trademark rounded voice is largely due to his plain vocalizing skill. "Maybe I sing too frankly. People who listen to my singing might feel the tone is too hard. I think I might need some more flexibility", he admits.
