K-pop fans from abroad can now more easily access indie music online thanks to two recently launched YouTube channels dedicated to the genre.

The new sites include a collaboration between YouTube and the Korean Independent Music Labels Association (www.youtube.com/user/koreaindiepop) and a channel launched by Mirrorball Music (http://www.youtube.com/mirrorballmusickorea).

Google, owner of YouTube, launched a K-pop channel in December 2011 and recently concluded agreements with the indie producers as a way to spread Korean indie music worldwide.

Korea's major entertainment agencies such as SM, YG, JYP and Cube Entertainment all operate official YouTube channels featuring their singers, but this is the first time that channels have been created solely for Korean indie music.

The new sites will feature concerts, music videos and interview clips previously posted individually by indie labels or musicians so that the videos can be accessed more easily. The sites currently include about 80 music videos and concert clips.

"Many K-pop fans will now grow more interested in Korean indie music while also streaming clips on YouTube", said a spokesman for Google Korea. "There is a good chance that an indie musician could become be a YouTube star".
