2010/12/17 | Permalink | Source

The Korean drama soap opera about a Korean family, "Giant", wrapped up recently with a 40.1% rating after seven months of airing. The setting is Seoul, 1970 through 2010. It cost almost $9 million to make this Korean drama soap opera about a Korean Family. Casting was composed of great actors and actresses such as Lee Beom-soo (Lee Kang Mo), Park Jin-hee (Hwang Jeong-Yeon), Park Sang-min (Lee Sung-Mo), Jeong Bo-Suk (Jo Pil-Yeon). Even the supporting actors were well-known. Also, the director presented admirably suitable settings for each time period that many viewers claimed they could recall. This Korean family drama will provide a chance for overseas Korean drama fans to see how Korea has changed from the 1970s until now.

In the 1970s, Korea began its industrialization and people started to consider wealth and fame as the meaning of success. In this Korean family drama, Jo Pil-Yeon, played by Jung Bo-suk, was the character that represents the attitude of success at any cost. Even in the present day, people still do dishonest deeds to obtain wealth and fame, and this drama shows how all those bad deeds drive people to misery, hence providing people a chance to reflect once again on the meaning of success.

Including their complicated relationships, it is hard for the siblings to revenge their father's death. Hwang Tae-Sub and Jo Pil-Yeon are already in positions that they can't easily attack. However, going through so many challenges, they revenge successfully.

The Korean family drama soap opera, "Giant", is about three siblings growing up pursuing revenge for their father's death; Lee Kang-Mo (Lee Beom-soo), his younger sister Lee Mi-Joo (Hwang Jung-eum) and his older brother Lee Sung-Mo (Park Sang-min).

The father was killed by Hwang Tae-Sub, a friend of his father, and Jo Pil-Yeon for their success. After the father's death, the whole family was separated and by cruel fate, Kang-Mo was raised by Hwang Tae-sub. Kang-Mo falls in love with Hwang Tae-Sub's daughter Hwang Jung-Yeon (Park Jin-hee), but they can't really be together as if they are Romeo and Juliet.

Both Hwang Tae-Sub and Jo Pil-Yeon (Jung Bo-suk) seem to be on the road to success.

Jo Pil-Yeon works as an agent for the Korean Intelligence Agency and Sung-Mo later gets picked by Pil-Yeon and works for him. Sung-Mo knows that Hwang Tae-Sub and Jo Pil-Yeon are the men who killed his father, so when he finds his brother Kang-Mo and they start planning revenge. While two brothers were planning revenge, Lee Mi-Joo loves Jo Min-Wook, son of Jo Pil Yeon, and carries his baby. She finds out the truth about his father's death after the pregnancy so she hides from everyone.
