[HanCinema's News] Kim Woo-seok Talks About "Military Prosecutor Doberman"

Actor Kim Woo-seok recently had some choice comments regarding his role as the villain in the legal military drama "Military Prosecutor Doberman" which finished last month on tvN. In the show, Kim Woo-seok played the role of Tae-nam, a villainous corporate heir whose love of dobermans becomes ironic as he comes into conflict with the lead character played by Ahn Bo-hyun, a man by the name of Do Bae-man. Kim Woo-saek claimed that even now, he wasn't ready to leave the project.

Tae-nam was the first role Kim Woo-seok ever had as a villain. Kim Woo-seok confessed to not being sure if he expressed himself as correctly in that role as he should have. But he did confirm that he did his best, and that even not knowing what the viewers would think ahead of time, that he had a fun time. Kim Woo-seok noted that he won the role through a competitive audition- one that he was certain he would fail.

Kim Woo-seok lacked confidence because of his lack of experience as a villain. Nevertheless, he decided to treat the audition as seriously as possible to insure that even if he did fail, he would do so with no regrets. But a month afterwards, Kim Woo-seok was informed that he had been selected for the role. Naturally, this made Kim Woo-seok very happy. But even after all this, Kim Woo-seok claimed to struggle in the early days of filming, trying to find a feeling similar to himself.

After much consulting with director Jin Chang-gyoo, Kim Woo-seok concluded that he shouldn't try so hard to understand his character. Rather, Jin Chang-gyoo suggested that Kim Woo-seok should not restrict himself, and instead freshly and freely show off everything he could do. Jin Chang-gyoo noted that Tae-nam changes enough over the course of the story that it wasn't accurate to treat his thought process as consistent in the name of a specific ethos.

Yet Kim Woo-seok also described the role as needing far less care than he was expecting. His character simply wasn't that sympathetic, and so a harsher expression became more appropriate as Kim Woo-seok put more thought into his performance. As time went by, this attitude decreased the difficulty of the work, and allowed Kim Woo-seok to come to the role with renewed vigor. "Military Prosecutor Doberman" ended on April 26th with ratings of 10.081%.
