[HanCinema's News] Second Year Anniversary Observed for Jeon Mi-sun's Death

On June 29th of 2019, actress Jeon Mi-sun passed out of this world. She was forty-nine years old. Despite her relatively minor stature as an actress, her death continues to be mourned by many in the South Korean entertainment industry, who were shocked by the news. Jeon Mi-sun had appeared at a press conference for the then unreleased film "The King's Letters" only four days earlier, and had been confirmed in an as yet unpublicized role in the then upcoming "The Tale of Nokdu" for television.

To this day the exact cause of Jeon Mi-sun's death is not known. It was reported as a suicide in part because her agency released a statement asserting that she was taking medication for depression. On the evening Jeon Mi-sun died, she came home late to her Jeonju hotel following dinner with colleagues. She had a short phone call with her father where he told her that there were many sick people at home.

It is unknown what transpired afterward to lead to Jeon Mi-sun's collapse in her hotel bathroom, but it seems likely the main factor preventing her resuscitation was simply this incident happening in the middle of the night. With a career stretching back to the nineties, Jeon Mi-sun's work continues to be rediscovered to this day. Whatever the cause of her death, Jeon Mi-sun's spirit remains in her frequently unsung yet always noteworthy supporting roles.
