Screen Quota To Be Cut

South Korea's Fair Trade Commission and Ministry of Culture and Tourism agreed to reduce the current screen quota system.
This was in a report to the lawmakers conducting parliamentary audits on Sunday.

The FTC has argued that the current policy of forcing South Korean movie theaters to fill at least 40 percent of their screening schedules with domestic films violates fair trade and competitiveness while instigating local filmmakers to produce low-quality movies.

The antitrust watchdog added that in the long run, reducing or abolishing the system will further develop local movies, citing the improvement the domestic film industry has made in recent years.
